Trista Sutter: Life Is ‘All About the Kids’

Once the center of attention as she searched for the man of her dreams, former Bachelorette star Trista Sutter has since taken a backseat to her two children.

“Life was all about Ryan and I, now it’s all about the kids,” the mom of Maxwell Alston, 2½, and Blakesley Grace, 13 months, tells PEOPLE Moms & Babies at Sunday’s Pregnancy Awareness Month kick-off event.

The revelation, she says, was never more apparent than following a recent family trip to Legoland, when Sutter was forced to look past her extreme exhaustion.

“We were driving back and I felt so tired. Ryan [joked], ‘You can’t be tired, you’re a mom!’ And I said, ‘Right, I’m a mom, that’s who I am,’” Sutter, 37, says.

“I do think it’s so important that you take care of yourself,” she adds.

“It’s all about being the best you, to be the best mom. You’re going to feel tired now and then, but I think if you’re happy and confident and empowered, it’s good.”
