Jillian Shows Ed her Alberta Roots

Source: Edmonton Sun

Bachelorette star Jillian Harris and fiance Ed Swiderski stopped by her hometown of Peace River on Friday night to judge a local singing competition as part of the Alberta Summer Games.

But instead of camera flashes and fans swarming them for autographs, the newly engaged couple who found love on the small screen spent the weekend riding ATVs, barbecuing and hanging out with Harris’s family.

“We have been looking forward to this for months now,” said Harris on the phone from Peace River. “Ed and I are both small-town people and just relish sitting around a campfire, ATVing, and cruising down the highway.”

When Harris, 30, was invited to sit on the judging panel to help crown the winner of the Peace River Idol singing competition, she jumped at the chance.
The winner received a $1,000 grand prize and will sing for the 3,000 athletes, coaches and officials and thousands more spectators during games week July 19 to 25.

“The rolling hills are beautiful, and it’s great to see my friends and family,” Harris said. “For me to show Ed my roots is something – one of the most incredible experiences I’ve had this year.”

Swiderski, also 30, said the northern Alberta community reminded him of the small Michigan town he grew up in.

“It’s awesome. Small town feel, but everybody is very nice and you bump into people and know them through a friend of a friend or family member.”

Since Harris was rejected by Season 13 Bachelor star Jason Mesnick in the winter of 2009, before finding love with Swiderski last July on the fifth season of the Bachelorette, the pair said life has been markedly different.

For one, they get noticed when they go out, which surprises Harris that “people care who we are.”

Fame has been a help and a hindrance to their careers – Harris’s as a designer and Swiderski’s in technology sales – forcing them to switch gears.

Now, Harris is readying for a role as one of Extreme Makeover Home Edition’s newest members while Swiderski is preparing to launch his own business helping less-fortunate children discover technology.

When they’re not on the job or throwing themselves into charity work, the two spend downtime at their Chicago home “sitting under the covers and watching TV,” Harris said.

There’s also a wedding in the works – though no date or plans have been set in stone. Fans will just have to wait to see if they get a glimpse into the couple’s big date either on TV or in magazines.

“The party isn’t the priority,” Harris said. “It’s having a healthy, successful relationship.”

Jillian Harris Spills 10 Beauty Secrets to TVGuide.ca

Source: TVGuide.ca

Around the TVGuide.ca offices, there’s a certain male whose heart goes pitter-patter at the thought of Jillian Harris. I’m not naming names, but he recently got a haircut and a snazzy new pair of shoes.

And he’s not the only one captured by her charms. The Season 5 finale of The Bachelorette, on which the perky Albertan chose Ed Swiderski to be her future hubby, drew 9.9 million viewers — the most the show’s seen in five years.
Though Harris and Swiderski, both 30, haven’t yet set a wedding date, she spilled 10 beauty lessons she’s learned since The Bachelorette, from her ideal wedding gown to her hair and makeup on the show, to whether she kept any of the clothes.

1. Labels aren’t all they’ve cracked up to be
Though Harris has a soft spot for Ina Soltani, she’s not a slave to those itty-bitty tags with fancy designers’ names. “I’m not a big label person. I just know it when it fits. No matter how expensive it is, it just depends on if I like the dress.”

2. She did her own hair and makeup on 'The Bachelorette'Who needs a glam squad? “I never had a hair and makeup artist,” she confesses. “Usually I had to get ready in 35 minutes or less. On my date with Ed, I had to shower, blow-dry my hair, put on makeup and get dressed in 28 minutes.”

3. A camera-ready face needs just four basics
If your makeup bag is stuffed fuller than the average celeb’s Botoxed lips, listen up. “A makeup primer is important, and a good setting powder that lets your makeup stay all day. Bronzer is my best friend. Then if you have a steady enough hand, liquid eyeliner and you’re off.”

4. Trust your sense of style
Harris lugged her own clothes to Bachelorette, though a stylist was on hand. “I mixed and matched his clothes with my clothes and made it my own. I loved my outfit on Jake’s date, the black tasselled dress with knee-high red boots. And my outfit with Jesse. I had a plaid shirt and yellow vest and boots — that’s totally my look.”

5. There’s no shame in taking freebees
Harris scored all the clothes her stylist gave her on Bachelorette. “Well, aside from a few rose ceremony dresses that were probably worth 10 grand,” she admits. “I’ve since donated about 60 per cent, and some of the dresses that were special to me I’ve cleaned and boxed up, and the other 10 per cent I still wear.”

6. Diets are overrated
“I’ve always had balance in my life when it comes to exercise and food. And I never deprive myself. If I feel like a burger, I will have the burger,” she confesses, adding that she’s currently obsessed with the Kraft Sizzling Salads line of dressings and meat sauces when she wants a quick, healthy fix.

7. Hot dogs are not off-limits
Bachelorette fans will be happy to know that Harris still indulges in ballpark food, and doesn’t feel guilty. “I’ll definitely splurge on a hot dog if I’m craving one. But my next meal will be a salad. I love hot dogs and the theory is still going strong!”

8. Spend your cash on what’s important
“Ed and I are passionate about spending money on things we are passionate about, which is eventually getting our own cabin and spending time with our family. So we are thrifty; we like to cook most of our meals at home.”

9. Two wedding dresses can be better than one“A part of me thought I’d want to go short, but another part of me, and Ed, wants it long,” she says, admitting she hasn’t even tried a gown on yet. “I want something unique — I love fashion, so maybe two dresses [for] a public wedding and a private wedding.”

10. You don’t have to be a gym bunny to look good
With her packed schedule, Harris doesn’t have time to obsess about her glutes, pecs or other monosyllabic body parts. “I ensure I’m active and I don’t watch a lot of TV. But when I am home I try to hit the gym two to three times a week.”

Jillian Harris Makes a Guest Appearence on ABC7 Chicago

Our favourite Canadian bachelorette, Jillian Harris, stopped by ABC 7 Chicago this morning to share her fabulous and creative "Eco Friendly" ideas.

She has some really neat ideas that are simple and effective and I will definitely be using them in my home.

I especially love the "recycle" bin that Jillian and Ed use at home. Recycling can be a fun experience when you have fun with it. After all, if we can save the environment and have fun at the same time, why over thing it?

And I still can't believe that the ABC7 Chicago hosts announce in the beginning of the segment, that Jillian and Ed are a married couple. Imagine if they eloped to Vegas and got married?

Ooops! Clearly someone didn't do their homework.

Let me know what you all think of Jillian's "Eco friendly" ideas by leaving your comments below.

Bachelorette Jillian Harris: Hot Dog Theory & Juicy Tidbits

‘The Bachelorette’ Jillian Harris’ perfect white teeth reminded me it was time for a batch of Crest Whitestrips.  They were glowing, as was the petite bride-to-be, who is currently living in Chicago with her fiancĂ© Ed.

During her FMA interview with correspondent and ex-boyfriend Kirk Renard, Jillian joked about ‘the hotdog diet’ being the secret to her tiny 101-pound frame.  On ABC’s ‘The Bachelor’, she theorized about dog toppings and what each reveals about a man.  Her musings nearly became available in the form of an iPhone app.

How it all began:
One Vancouver night out at the Roxy, a Ferrari-driving male jingled his car keys at Jill and asked if she’d go home with him.  She pretty much laughed in his face and told him she’d prefer a donkey ride.  Off he went.

‘Why do I attract this type?!’ the soon-to-be Bachelorette wondered…not that Ferrari drivers are bad people, but she doubted they were generally the type to enjoy wiener roasts and camping – two of her favorite activities.

Her best friend and witness to the scene commented that she needed ‘a good sauerkraut guy’.  Jill disagreed, saying she’d prefer a ‘ketchup or a mustard guy’.

The two theorized about male characteristics and their relation to how each dresses their meat.  Alas, ‘the hotdog theory’ was born, becoming Jill’s claim to fame on her first-ever appearance on ABC’s hit show.

Snippets from ‘The Hotdog Theory:

Ketchup guy: kind of boring and certainly not for everyone.  He’s kind of a mama’s boy: dependable, sensitive, and close to his family.  He might be a little cheap with birthday and Christmas presents but at least he’ll remember them.  Overall, he’s a good solid guy, but a little ‘ho-hum’.

Raw onion guy: never gets married.  He burps, farts, hunts, fishes, drives a big truck, and says, ‘hey babe’, a lot.  For some reason, many women are attracted to him.  Very often, he is rough-shaven.

Sauerkraut guy: usually good looking with a big personality and lots of confidence.  Girls love his spontaneity.  He always cheats.

Fried onion guy: same as raw onion guy but gets married several times.

Relish guy: very creative and artsy.  He’s kind of like ketchup guy (bit of a mama’s boy) but has weird fetishes.

‘Humdoger’ is Jill’s favorite Vancouver hotdog stand (and if you don’t like it, you get your money back!).  As for toppings, she goes for pickles, sauerkraut, mustard, ketchup, cheese, onions, and jalapenos.  Go girl.

Anyone who salts and peppers their oysters is a person whose food sense I trust.  That’s just what Jill did at Rodney’s, our post-interview hangout.  So, next craving…I’m skipping my usual Japa Dog for a fully loaded Humdoger.

Years ago, Jill’s parents chose KFC as their wedding caterer.  To carry on the ‘comfort food tradition’, it would only be fitting to serve hot dogs at her own upcoming reception.  I predict a trend.

Jillian Harris in Today's 24 Hours Newspaper (Toronto Edition)

24 Hours Tanya Enberg interviewed Jillian Harris on her experience on the Bachelorette, live in Chicago, and her new KRAFT project.

Didn't get your hands on a copy?!

No worries . . . Bachelorette Chit Chat's got you covered!

Bachelorette settles into new life in Chicago

After being the only single gal getting showered with attention from 30 hunky dudes on reality TV show, The Bachelorette, what comes next?

Well, for Canadian-born Jillian Harris, it’s all about settling into a new life with Chicagobased Ed Swiderksi, the last man standing during the reality TV show’s grand finale.

When filming wrapped, Jillian joined Ed in the buzzing city. After all, her Vancouver-based job as a restaurant interior designer wasn’t waiting for her, so following her heart only made sense.

“I took too much time off,” she admits of taking part in the series, which aired last year.

“And thank God, because there have been so many opportunities that have come up since then. It was time for me to grow from a baby caterpillar to a full butterfly,” she laughs.

Jillian was in Canada recently to update fans about life post The Bachelorette and promote her latest gig as spokeswoman for Kraft Sizzling Salads kits.
Loyal viewers, however, will definitely want this one question answered: Have Jillian and Ed set a wedding date yet?

While they’re sporting engagement-ring bling, when exactly they plan to say I do (and whether those nuptials will be aired on TV) are considerations still being juggled around.

“Any time in the next 12 months is definitely doable,” says the 30-year-old.
Like Jillian’s easygoing personality, she envisions a day that’s laid-back and stress-free.

“A big barbecue with a big white tent and Bud beer. I want it to be down-to-earth country.”

When Jillian first hit the reality-TV circuit, she wasn’t desperately seeking thought it would career boost.

Her first taste love, but be a good of smallscreen fame was on The Bachelor, starring Jason Mesnick, on which she placed third.

“I was drinking too much wine that night,” she says of applying for a spot.

“I made fun of the show just like everyone else did and was like, God, these women can’t really be like this, but everyone of us has a crazy side ... the question is how is it going to come out? It’s like dating in a little petri dish.”

The spirit of fierce competition (and the claw-swiping drama and game playing it inspires) is naturally enough to drive any contestant a little batty.

Either way, Jillian played things fairly cool, and ultimately wound up getting her own show as The Bachelorette and snagging a mate in the process.
With so many viable gentleman callers, why did she choose Ed?

“When I looked at Ed, I could imagine us with false teeth and grandkids running around and drinking tea with doilies everywhere,” she recalls.

“Doilies?” I inquire. “OK, it probably would never get to that!” she laughs.
Now with the cameras off, the couples’ day-to-day existence is pretty ordinary.
“We spend a lot of time at home,” she admits.

“I’d say six nights a week. We cook a lot, might have a glass of wine and go to bed.”

They’ve also already dodged some pretty nasty bullets, namely the tabloid-breaking news that Ed had been fooling around with two ex-flames.
“I didn’t deal with that well,” Jillian admits.

“I had anxiety, I didn’t eat and I wasn’t sleeping. To me, I knew the truth ... it wasn’t a perfect scenario by any means. (But) it wasn’t enough for me to say goodbye to the man of my dreams.”

Yep, reality isn’t always picture perfect, but can you actually find everlasting love on a glossy, high-drama dating show? Maybe so. Of course, only time will tell.

Jillian Harris dishes on Ed's Infidelity on ET Canada

The 'Bachelorette' star finally opens up to Cheryl Hickey about the infidelity rumours swarming after 'The Bachelorette' ended.

Up until this day, she doesn't deny them and it brings up a lot of emotions.

Who can blame her? You definitely don't want to be hearing this after you just got engaged to on national television.

How was she was able to finally move on from the tabloid frenzy?

Total communication. In order to move forward as a new couple, you need to leave the past behind.

Have they been able to move on?

They look like they have. Jillian is a smart woman and would have definitely left Ed if something was going on.

Thankfully, they were able to move away from the ordeal and are now happy as ever!

Any wedding details? Jillian is still tight-lipped about setting a date.

Cheryl Hickey asked if it's because of a possible TV wedding?

Jillian coyly smiles and admits that her family is pushing her to have the wedding televised since since a) they don't have to pay for it and b) it's a 'once in a lifetime' opportunity.

Smart family!

Phoning It In With … The Bachelor’s Jillian Harris

Reality TV star/restaurant designer, Jillian Harris blew through town yesterday to promote her newest project, an earth-friendly restaurant chain named Yumberi.

And as unapologetic fans of “The Bachelor/Bachelorette,” we were tickled pink to spend a few minutes on the phone with her.

First of all, she’s way too nice to be a semi-famous TV star. So nice in fact, that we officially feel horrible for laughing at the the all jokes Joel McHale made at her expense on The Soup.

She’s also been crazy busy, putting her talents to use as a guest designer on “Extreme Home Makeover.” However, she did find time to check out Scottsdale’s Modern Steak, which she described as “really beautiful and warm but cool, like a chic version of grandma’s house.” (She must have some pretty hip grandparents back in her hometown of Vancouver, Canada.) Meanwhile, Harris was also impressed by the Valley’s collection of Mid-Century Modern architecture, which she says is one of her fav styles.

As for the tabloid reports of friction between her and fiancĂ©, Ed Swiderski, she says fear not. “We’re so happy and will be setting a wedding date in the next couple of weeks.” That said, she admits that they getting a lot of pressure, both from fans of the show, “but also my family, who can’t wait for us to get married.”

Finally, Harris gushed about her new gig designing restaurant interiors for Yumberi, a new upscale yogurt shop coming to the Valley in June. Owned by a childhood friend, Harris says it’s much more environmentally focused than competing shops such as Pinkberry, thanks to the use of reclaimed wood interiors and biodegradable serving products (paper cups made from recycled potato skins and corn-based spoons).

Furthermore, this self-serve concept will feature “less Cap’n Crunch and more fresh fruit toppings, as well as health options such as gluten-free yogurts,” Harris says.

Mmmm . . . keeping my fingers crossed that one will eventually open in Toronto.

Jillian Harris: Jake and Vienna Should Tune Out Talk

Former Bachelorette Jillian Harris admits that she didn’t particularly care for Vienna Girardi  the woman chosen by this season’s Bachelor Jake Pavelka over fan favorite Tenley Molzhan.

However, after getting to know Vienna in recent months — and seeing how happy she’s made Jake — Harris says she’s changed her mind.

“She’s a doll. I like her as a person,” Harris told PEOPLE Thursday at a Chicago bash celebrating the 10th anniversary of Real Simple magazine. “I saw how she brought out a better side of him.”

Whether that couple ends up tying the knot remains to be seen, but in any case, Harris says they should tune out gossip about their relationship, as she has learned to do.

“What happens on the internet or on TV, or the speculations that people make does not define the outcome of our life,” said Harris, who battled rumors regarding the fidelity of Ed Swiderski, the suitor she chose during the July 2009 finale of The Bachelorette

“You don’t really fall in love until three to six months after the show ends,” she confides. “Luckily with Ed, we are a lot alike, we have the same values, we have the same upbringing.” All the same, she said, “I really fell in love with him after the show.”

And Harris and Swiderski, both 30, are definitely headed for the altar. The question of when, however, remains to be answered and contrary to reports, no date has been set. “We are definitely in love and we definitely are going to be married,” she confirms. “We’re hoping it will be in the next year or two. We’re both excited.”

Harris says she would like an outdoor wedding in her home country of Canada or a similarly picturesque setting. She wants to book the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band to play at the party, and plans to serve her 200 guests cabbage rolls made by her Aunt Becky and cake prepared by her cousin Tori.

Meanwhile, the interior designer is settling into her new hometown of Chicago, where fiancĂ© Swiderski works as a computer software consultant. The pair recently moved into a new townhouse and Harris is staying busy with her home design and charity work, including a recent appearance on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

What do you guys think? Are we all wrong about the way we feel about Vienna? Let me know by leaving your comments below.

Jillian and Ed Update!

By Lina Di Genova

According to Us Weekly, The Bachelorette Cutie and her handsome finance are planning to leave Chicago. They haven't decided were to move permanently, but, their top picks are San Francisco, Seattle, San Diego or Portland, Oregon.

To make their final decision, the duo did a road trip along the pacific coast to check out the four cities.

My pick would definitely be San Francisco. Personally, I have never been there but what I've seen from movies, pictures, tv, and friends, it seems like the perfect city to start a life together. But no matter what they chose, I wish them the best of luck.

Along their West Coast trip, they stopped at California's Redwood Forest and posed in front of the same tree Jillian's parents carved "I love you." How cute is that?
When asked about their wedding plans, they are still tightlipped on where the event is going to take place, Ed hints, "There are alot of big events we are looking forward to during the next few months."

Mmmmm ... I hope that they do decide to do a TV wedding. Anyone can agree that after Jake's disappointing decision and Jason's "changing his mind" disaster, we Bachelor fans need something to look forward too.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Plus . . . I loved Jillan's wardrobe on the Bachelorette. I would love to see what wedding dress she would be wearing, the jewelry, the bridemaid's dresses, the flowers . . . sorry I can get carried away talking about weddings!

So . . . fellow readers, would you watch if Jillian and Ed decide to do a TV wedding?? Let me know by leaving your comments below.

Jillian Harris 'plays April Fools' joke'

Bachelorette couple Jillian Harris and Ed Swiderski have reportedly joined the list of celebrities to have played an April Fools' Day prank today.

The reality stars, who became engaged last year, joked on their Twitter accounts this morning that Harris was pregnant with their first child.

"Eddie and I are expecting a little one, and we've set a date! Wow!" wrote Harris.

Swiderski added on his own account: "I'm the happiest man in the world! Edward R Swiderski IV!!! And we finally set a wedding date. 9/35/2010."

Their tweets were acknowledged by fellow Bachelor stars including current Dancing With The Stars cast member Jake Pavelka, who wrote: "Wait, wait wait! I'm calling BULL to Jillian and Ed's baby announcement! It's April Fools' Day!"

Bachelor contestant Tenley Molzahn said: "Oh dear me... I got all excited, then I remembered today!" Molzahn also played a joke herself, retweeting an announcement that she is engaged to Andy Baldwin.

Jillian and Ed Spotted at Dancing With The Stars Premiere

They’re always up for a good time, and last night (March 22) Jillian Harris and Ed Swiderski were spotted at the Season 10 opener of “Dancing with the Stars.”

The “Bachelorette” lovers took advantage of the Gifting Services area, located on the CBS Studio Lot, as the paparazzi looked on.

As for their wedding, Jillian recently told press she’s got everything under control, though she hasn’t decided when to have it.

“The wedding is pretty much planned. We have everything written down and picked out and, let me tell you this, it is going to be incredible. We have the coolest ideas on how we are going to decorate it, what music we are going to have, and what dress I am going to wear. It is going to be wicked. But there are two things we haven't figured out yet: When it is going to be, and whether or not we are going to televise it. Those are the two things we have to decide.”

Jillian Harris Talks Wedding Plans

Jillian Harris and fiancĂ© Ed Swiderski made an appearance at Jason and Molly Mesnick's wedding. Now, "The Insider" talks to the Canadian cutie to find out what her life is like since moving to Chicago and getting engaged to the man of her dreams.

"The Insider": How are you adjusting to life in Chicago?

Jillian Harris: I am adjusting fine. Chicago is so much like Canada. The weather is cold; it snows a lot. The people are very friendly. I fit in really well with all of Ed's friends. We finally have a place that is big enough for the two of us. I love decorating it. I love spending time in it. I feel at home here.

"The Insider": On "The Bachelor: Jason and Molly's Wedding," you and Ed talked about planning your wedding. How is that going?

Jillian Harris: The wedding is pretty much planned. Those are the two things we have to decide.

"The Insider": The ratings on Jason and Molly's wedding weren't that good. I wonder if that is because Jason dumped Melissa Rycroft before switching to Molly. At this point, you are probably way more popular than he is.
